Following this, he pursued postdoctoral research as a CRI Irvington Fellow in the lab of Prof. Darrell Irvine at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In 2016, Prof. Tang joined EPFL’s Institute of Bioengineering and Institute of Materials Science & Engineering as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, earning a promotion to Associate Professor in 2022. His accolades include numerous international research awards, such as the CAB Mid-Career Investigator Award (2024), Biomaterials Award for Young Investigators (2024), Anna Fuller Award (2022, 2011), Cancer Research Institute CLIP Award (2021), and the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant (2018). He was also featured in MIT Technology Review’s "Top 35 Innovators under Age 35" for China in 2020.
